Archive of LARC events: 2006 2005 2004 2003

Alongside and inbetween the 'events' listed, LARC has been a satisfying (if sometimes cold) location for a myriad of meetings, meet-ups, banner creations, officespace shufflings, info-exchanges, and social inebriations - and that's just in the last couple of months! Although LARC wasn't 'properly' open - at least on the net - til the winter of 2002, the building was regularly used for meetings and events during it's two and a half year renovation. We've piecing together a few highlights of this pre-website 'events' life, for the historically inclined (and so we can remember). Below are the web listings for 2003 with 2004 and 2005 on separate pages.

For information about - and links to - groups who hold meetings at LARC see the User Groups page.

The afternoon will focus on our window of opportunity to effect change which has just been extended by 6 months - practical campaigning ideas and next steps for local campaigning. If youre wanting to find out more about the issues and get involved with the campaign, this day is a must. London Social Forum on Transport: Tuesday 28th January 7pm.
We want to help make the social forum movement a concrete reality for London, and call for a working group on London Social Forum on Transport. The immediate aim of the meetings would be to brainstorm on both concrete proposals and possible courses of actions on the question of transport. The broad, strategic basis of our approach is to embrace diversity. Transport in London is a collective need, but a need that means different things to different people (transport workers, communters, cyclists, environmentalists, poor, refugees, socially excluded, and so on). We want to promote a process in which this diversity voices and articulates these needs, and acts upon them with collective political action.

No Borders evening: Tuesday 18th March, from 7.30pm Video Screening & Discussion.
Creative Contestation of Capital and Space. Examples and a brainstorm for the G8 summit in Evian. The Gang of 8 is meeting in Evian on July 1st. Many creative responses to their attack on the spa at the French/Swiss border are in the pipeline, ranging from painted cows to cyber attacks, from blockades in virtual and physical space to street-parties and lock-ons. We hope that experiences from previous years are inspiring: the strasbourg noborder camp and the tour of the international publix theatre caravan. Strasbourg noborder camp 2002: Video diary of a Samba activist. 2000 activists from Europe and beyond spent 10 days at the French/German border. An experiment in self-organisation, communication-chaos, technology, creative and traditional forms of action. A laboratory of civil disobedience, a crash course in frustration management, an exploration of digital and physical borders. A gathering of grassroots activists without a summit.
Hacking the SIS: communication guerilla on the virtual borders. The Schengen Information System in Strasbourg is a database containing information on migrants and activists. During the noborder camp 2002, scientists from the institute of biopolitical research virtually opened the Schengen Information System in an attempt to publicise the database.
PublixTheatreCaravan 2001 video: Mobile action, fun, repression and media. During the summer of resistance 2001, the international theatre group travelled from Salzburg via Slovenia to Genoa, where they were arrested and accused of being the black-block ringleaders of the Genoa protests. The video explores the potential of creative resistance, the specifics of a travelling, bordercrossing action and the complications of dealing with mainstream media. www.no-borders.co.uk

The Distributed Library Project works in exactly the opposite way, where the very function of the library depends on interaction. See DLP for more info.
